Rust Wipe Schedule Explained: Weekly, Biweekly and Forced Wipes
If you run — or play on — a Rust server, the wipe schedule is the single most important thing you'll decide. It sets the rhythm of your whole community. Here's how wipes work and how to schedule them.
What is a wipe?
A wipe resets the world so everyone starts fresh. There are two kinds:
- Map wipe. The world regenerates — bases, resources and progress on the map are gone, but blueprints (BPs) can stay.
- BP wipe. Blueprints reset too, so everyone re-learns crafting from scratch. Much harsher.
Forced wipes
On the first Thursday of every month, Facepunch ships an update that forces a map wipe on every server. Your server has to wipe that day whether you like it or not, so build your schedule around it.
Common schedules
- Weekly (Thursday): the default. Fresh start every week, keeps the grind fresh.
- Biweekly: more time to build up, popular with less hardcore groups.
- Monthly: only wiping on force-wipe day — for slow, base-building communities.
Most servers do weekly map wipes and a monthly BP wipe on force-wipe day.
Automating it
You don't want to wipe by hand at midnight. A good panel lets you set a wipe scheduler — pick the day and time, choose map-only or full BP wipe, and it handles regenerating the map and clearing the right files automatically. Announce it in your Discord so players know when to expect it.
Our Rust hosting has a built-in wipe scheduler and Oxide/uMod support, so your wipes run themselves and your plugins survive the reset.
